So often the exterior of our homes get overlooked as we favour beautifying the interior spaces. Especially in this cold climate we call home, the instinct is to make the indoors cozy and appealing at all times. Often our outdoor spaces get neglected as we cram our spring and summer full of seasonal fun!
Well, spring is the perfect opportunity to make the most of your outdoor space, and why not start with the front of your home? There are so many ways to up the wow factor and gain massive curb appeal.
This design board was conceived to lend inspiration for those who are craving a little outdoor style. It consists of items available through Canadian retailers, most of them in Ottawa. If anything you see strikes your fancy you can now go out and purchase it within city limits, or through the magic of online shopping. I hope you have fun decorating your own front facade, or maybe even carry the theme into the backyard as well!

Hi Everyone, I'm excited to share this grey and white kitchen with you today! I had such a fun time designing it for a fun-loving family of four. When I first met with them they were in the process of planning a two story addition for their home. They wanted me to help with choosing finishes for their new larger space, as well as creating a design for their new kitchen.
The homeowners were envisioning shaker style cabinets and a subway tile back-splash. They were also dreaming of an island with seating for four. They wanted the finished space to feel larger, lighter and brighter. We chose a palette of soft greys and whites to keep the kitchen modern, but soft.
The kitchen is a through-way between the front and back of the house, so it really is the hub of the home! Plenty of space was allocated for traffic to flow through the kitchen to other areas of the home.
The homeowners love to bake and do so regularly with and without their children. The kitchen needed to be user friendly for having one or more bakers at a time. It was also a priority to incorporate a good quality range, and plenty of storage for an extensive collection of bake-ware.
To further the amount of storage in the kitchen, we installed a large pantry that spans an entire wall. There is an abundance of storage here for bake-ware, larger kitchen items and non-perishable foods. The closed-door pantry helps keep the space uncluttered and clean, even if there may be a big old mess behind those pantry doors.
We added a touch of natural wood to the overall design scheme in our lighting, seating and accessories. This helps warm up the space, add interest, and connect the kitchen with the rest of the house, which has natural hardwood flooring throughout.
A farmhouse style sink was chosen in a stainless steel finish to match the appliances and add a modern-rustic appeal. We also added a window to the wall above the sink to capitalize on the natural light and help visually open the space. Oh yes, and for the shoot we got some fresh flowers because they always add a wonderful element.
